Mongolia has one of the few prison systems in the region that has more prison capacity than it has prisoners. It currently holds around 7,800 prisoners in 62 institutions.
Panopticon Consulting’s work in Mongolia focused on long term capacity building through undertaking an assessment of all the main prisons in Mongolia against international standards and making specific recommendations for each of those prisons. This was completed over a three year period, with the Panopticon Consulting team spending eight weeks in Mongolia.
Panopticon Consulting also delivered training workshops for staff from the prison administration on a range of subjects, including on Human Rights in places of detention and Managing Prisons.
